Society for the Study of Symbolic Interaction (SSSI)
A close partner organization of the CCCSIR, because Carl Couch was a symbolic
interactionist and was affiliated with SSSI during his professional life. Many
who are affiliated with CCCSIR, including many of Carl's colleagues and former
students, are also members of SSSI.
SSSI
Couch-Stone Symposium
SSSI sponsors an annual scholarly meeting named for Carl and for another noted
symbolic interactionist, Gregory Stone.
Midwest Sociological Association (MSS)
Another organization of sociologists with which Carl Couch was active during
his professional life. Several important CCCSIR events take place at the annual
meeting of MSS each year, including thePeter Hall Lecture Series, the Carl
Couch SSSI Banquet, presentation of the Saxton Award and the Maines Award,
and usually at least one panel of papers related to interactionist theory.
Association
of Internet Researchers (AoIR)
Because of Carl Couch's theorizing about symbolic interaction online -- work
that was done late in Carl's life but very early in the life of the internet
-- AoIR has graciously partnered with CCCSIR to host the presentation of the
Carl Couch Internet Research Award at the annual AoIR conference.
National
Communication Association (NCA)
The NCA annual meeting is an important event for CCCSIR, because it is the site
of the Steve Jones Internet Lecture Series, as well as the locus for presentation
of the Carey, Christians, Denzin, and Gronbeck Awards.
Iowa
Communication Association (IaCA)
The annual conference of the IaCA is the site of the Jon Hall Online GIFT (Great
Ideas For Teaching) Forum.
American
Sociological Association (ASA)
Alternate site for some CCCSIR award presentations.
Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC)
Alternate site for some CCCSIR award presentations.
